Joey Sellers

Joey Sellers is a composer, trombonist, pianist and educator whose writing lives between freedom and structure. A recipient of the Gil Evans Fellowship in Jazz Composition, the Sammy Nestico Award and the Julius Hemphill Award, he has written for Doc Severinsen, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, orchestras and chamber ensembles, and has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts and other music organizations. Sellers formed the ensemble that became the Jazz Aggregation to perform his original music, and its Los Angeles and New York incarnations earned critical praise for writing that reshapes the conventional big-band vocabulary. He is Director of Jazz Studies at Saddleback College.
